📝 The Ultimate Guide to Reading DateTime Values from an Excel Sheet 🗓️

Are you facing difficulties while trying to read DateTime values from an Excel sheet? Don't worry, you're not alone! Many developers encounter similar issues when dealing with Excel data.

🔍 The Problem: The problem in this case is that when reading a DateTime value from an Excel sheet, it is being returned as a double value instead of the expected DateTime format. Additionally, when converting this double value to a Timespan, the resulting DateTime is incorrect, displaying a different value.

🚀 The Solution: To obtain the exact same DateTime value as displayed in the Excel sheet, follow these steps:

1️⃣ Step 1: Retrieving the Double Value Instead of directly converting the cell value to a double, retrieve it as a generic object using the .Value2 property. This approach ensures that the value is not automatically converted to a specific data type.

2️⃣ Step 2: Converting the Double to a DateTime To convert the double value to a DateTime, use the AddDays() method on a new DateTime object set to January 1, 1900. Add the double value as the number of days since January 1, 1900:

double doubleValue = (double)(range.Cells[rCnt, cCnt] as Excel.Range).Value2;
DateTime dateTimeValue = new DateTime(1900, 1, 1).AddDays(doubleValue);

3️⃣ Step 3: Formatting the DateTime If you require a specific DateTime format, you can use the .ToString() method to format the DateTime value accordingly:

string formattedDateTime = dateTimeValue.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss.fff");

🔀 Example: Let's say we have a cell in Excel containing the value "2007-02-19 14:11:45.730". After applying the solution, the resulting formattedDateTime would be equal to "2007-02-19 14:11:45.730".

🔔 Call-to-Action: Now that you've learned how to correctly read DateTime values from an Excel sheet, it's time to try it out yourself! Implement these steps in your code and let us know your success story.
